Why these are not ordinary guided tours

The MyTribe differential

The common knock on guided tours is that they are almost always six or eight very small groups of four or six people with nothing but the destination in common. In addition, while these guided tours will often have a tour manager, few, if any have a Group Leader — which is a difference-maker on all MyTribe Travels.

We are very intentional in terms of engagement, connections and entertainment throughout the tours, whether it’s during free time, motorcoach rides from one city to another, or facilitating engagement and communication with family and friends back home.

On every tour

The Group Leader will not only make sure that everybody is accounted for at all times — you can also count on these, and more.

  1. A photo and video montage

    Of the whole trip, put together afterwards and given to every traveler. Nobody has to be the one taking pictures instead of being there.

  2. A reunion party

    After every tour, once the montage is finished. The trip does not end at the airport — which is rather the point of travelling with a tribe.

  3. Daily travel blog

    So that friends and family back home can share your travel experience, virtually.

  4. Birthday celebrations

    Including a group birthday sing-along like no other. Thank you “Perky” for this MyTribe tradition.

Two Truths and a Lie, Thailand

The goal of this game is to get the most people voting one of your truths to be a lie. Who would’ve imagined after a wonderful experience feeding breakfast to the Monks in Thailand, that one of our travelers, as a teenager was himself a Monk. Well played Ricky.

Most of our travelers do. Two of these are ours, one is Collette’s, and none of them were written down anywhere until now.

$150 for introducing someone

Refer a first-time MyTribe traveler, and once they have completed their tour you get a $150 travel credit. There is no cap on how many you can earn — if five friends come and travel, that is $750 off your next trip.

Collette Loyalty Credits

Separately from anything we do, Collette rewards travelers by the number of Collette tours they have taken. Depending on how many that is, it can be worth $500 or more off a booking. Ask Steve to check what you have accrued — people are often surprised.

And the things that are not money

Every traveler gets the photo and video montage of the trip, and everyone is invited to the reunion party once it is done. Those are not rewards for coming back so much as the reason people do.

Does MyTribe Travels offer guided travel packages?

Yes, MyTribe Travels offers guided travel packages for families, friends, and corporate groups. Our guided packages are customizable and can include activities and accommodations that are suitable for all members of the group.

What happens if I have to cancel?

That depends on whether you bought Collette’s Cancellation Waiver. It is not included in the tour price — it costs $599 to $699 per person depending on the tour, and it has to be purchased with your first deposit. It cannot be added later. With it, you can cancel for any reason up to 24 hours before departure and get your money back, and you are covered for trip interruption, flight cancellations, lost luggage and emergency medical costs. Without it, you will pay Collette’s standard change and cancellation penalties. One thing worth knowing: the waiver does not cover the single supplement you would be charged if the person you are rooming with cancels — that is deducted from their refund, not yours. Each tour page sets out the exact figures.

Do I have to pay the whole thing up front?

No. You reserve with a deposit — $698 for Scotland and Northern Ireland, $898 for the Danube — and the balance is not due until a few months before departure. Each tour page lists its deposit, its final payment date, and whether the deposit is refundable. Once your deposit is in and Collette confirms the booking, your price is locked; it cannot go up except for government-imposed tax or fee increases.

Is airfare included?

Yes, on both current tours. The price includes round-trip air from San Diego International, air taxes, fees and surcharges, and your hotel transfers. If you would rather fly Premium Economy or Business Class, those upgrades are priced on each tour page and hold until eight months before departure.

I am travelling on my own. Is that a problem?

Not at all — a good number of our travelers come solo, and plenty of them have come back a dozen times. You can book a single room, and each tour page shows the single rate. If you would rather share and split the cost, say so when you enquire. We will offer to introduce you to anyone else looking, and the two of you decide between yourselves whether it is a good fit — we will not simply assign you a roommate. Do read the note about the cancellation waiver above, though: if a roommate cancels, the single supplement comes out of their refund.
